Common Questions

Before you enroll.

The questions we hear most. Don’t see yours? Email Delaney — we answer within 24 hours.

  • How do I pick the right training program?

At Meadow Ridge in Rapid City, the right path depends on your goals and how involved you want to be. For results without daily involvement, the Training Retreat (board-and-train) or Day Train (day training, Mon–Fri) is the path. To learn alongside your dog, group classes or private lessons are the owner-involved formats. Not sure? Email Delaney or book an evaluation.

  • What’s the difference between Day Train and Training Retreat?

Both are intensive training programs at Meadow Ridge in Rapid City. Training Retreat is board-and-train — your dog stays at the Lodge full-time for 3–6 weeks while Delaney trains them daily. Day Train is day training — drop off in the morning, pick up in the evening, Monday through Friday, and your dog is home each night.

  • What age can my puppy start training?

At Meadow Ridge in Rapid City, our Puppy Obedience class is open to pups 8 weeks through 6 months. Earlier is better — the socialization window closes fast, and controlled training environments are safe even before a puppy’s vaccine series is fully complete.

  • What training method or style do you use?

Delaney is a certified master trainer through Highland Canine Training’s School for Dog Trainers. Her specific approach is tailored to each dog’s temperament and goals — best discussed at evaluation, where she can recommend the right path for your dog. Email Delaney with questions about method.

  • How much do training programs cost?

At Meadow Ridge in Rapid City, group classes start at $135 for a 4-week session (Loose Leash, Trick) and $165 for 6-week sessions (Basic, Puppy). Private Lessons are $80/hour. The Nail Trim Workshop is $30. Training Retreat and Day Train are quoted at evaluation. See full pricing →

  • Is an evaluation required to enroll?

For Training Retreat and Day Train, yes — a $25 evaluation (30 minutes) is the first step. Delaney assesses your dog and recommends the right program. If you move forward with Retreat or Day Train, the follow-up enrollment consultation is free. The Retreat also requires a deposit at enrollment. Group classes and private lessons can be booked directly without an evaluation.

  • Can my dog receive training while they’re boarding at Meadow Ridge?

Yes — boarding guests can add Day Train sessions to their stay. Delaney trains your dog through the day while they’re here at the Lodge, and you pick them up as usual at the end of the day. When booking, just let us know you’d like to add training — or text us at (605) 415-9000 to set it up.

  • When do classes start?

Class start dates rotate every few weeks. The current schedule, including start dates and open spots, lives in our Acuity scheduling system →

  • Do you work with reactive or anxious dogs?

Yes. At Meadow Ridge in Rapid City, Private Lessons can be customized for reactivity and behavior modification. For complex training needs, the consultation is the right place to start — Delaney builds a plan around your dog’s specific concerns.

  • Do you train cats?

No. Training programs at Meadow Ridge are for dogs only.
