Our Story

How we got here.

Justin Bolen and Ashley Bolen, owners of Meadow Ridge Pet Lodge in Rapid City, SD

We built Meadow Ridge Pet Lodge to create something that didn’t exist in our area — a true, full-service pet care experience that prioritizes both the animal and the owner. This wasn’t just about opening another boarding facility; it was about building a place where people feel confident leaving their pets, knowing they’re safe, engaged, and genuinely cared for. What stood out to us in Rapid City was a gap between basic boarding facilities and what pet owners actually want today. Many options covered the essentials, but lacked consistency, transparency, and a more elevated experience. There wasn’t a place that combined daycare, boarding, grooming, training, and a community aspect under one roof — while also delivering a professional, clean, and well-managed environment. We wanted to close that gap.

From the beginning, the vision was intentional and detail-driven. Every element of Meadow Ridge was designed with the pet’s experience in mind — how they move through a space, how materials hold up, and how to reduce stress in an unfamiliar environment. That meant open layouts, durable and sanitary finishes, thoughtful traffic flow, and spaces that feel calm but stimulating. We approached it like a systems problem, combining functionality, safety, and comfort into a facility that works as well operationally as it does for the animals themselves.

The idea really came together in a simple moment — a conversation between friends and animal lovers with a notepad, sketching out what an ideal pet facility would look like if you removed the typical limitations and built it the right way from day one. That quick sketch turned into a layout, then into a plan, and eventually into a full-scale project. From that point on, it became less of an idea and more of a clear path forward.

“A place where pets can play, relax, and thrive — whether for a day or an extended stay.”

— Ashley Bolen, Co-owner
